Guidelines & Additional Information

 

Paper & Cardboard Collection: Includes newspaper, glossy junk mail and brown paper bags. Cardboard must be flattened, bundled and tied for disposal curbside and at the DPW Recycling Center. DO NOT place anything in plastic bags, this will result in your recycling not being collected curbside or at the DPW Recycling Center.

 

 


 Plastic, Glass & Can Collection: All materials must be emptied, rinsed and recycled in rigid containers. DO NOT place anything in plastic bags, this will result in your recycling not being collected curbside or at the DPW Recycling Center.

 

 

 

Grass Collection: Includes leaves, yard waste and tree trimmings. Will be collected on Wednesdays from April 6th to December 28th. Grass, leaves and tree trimmings may be mixed with other yard waste and placed in brown paper bags or rigid containers BUT NOT WITH OTHER RECYCLING. DO NOT place anything in plastic bags, this will result in your recycling not being collected curbside or at the DPW Recycling Center. Tree branches must be bundled and tied not to exceed three (3) feet in length by four (4) inches in diameter.

 

 

Leaf Bags will be distributed from October 5th to December 7th free of charge at Borough Hall, Room 103 during regular business hours and at the DPW Recycling Center Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:00am-11:00am and Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm ONLY. *Limit 10 per household*

 

 

 

Household Batteries: Rechargeable and button cell batteries may be dropped off at the DPW Recycling Center, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:00am-11:0am and Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm. Alkaline batteries may be put in the regular garbage. For all other batteries visit BCUA.org or call 201-641-2552 for disposal information.

 

 

 

Plastic Bags, Films & Packaging: Including but not limited to plastic store bags, the wrapping for cases of water, cellophane, plastic wrap and store produce bags are NOT accepted with curbside recycling collection. Any recycling found to be mixed with these types of plastic will NOT BE COLLECTED. Residents are encouraged to dispose of these types of plastic through local supermarkets.

 

 

 Metal & White Goods: Including but not limited to refrigerators (doors removed), washing machines, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, window A/C units and hot water heaters* are collected curbside BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. To schedule an appointment please contact the DPW at 973-365-4068. *Before a hot water heater is collected you must obtain a plumbing permit from the Building Department, Room 204 or 973-859-7410, they are NOT to be placed curbside until a permit is obtained.

 

 

TIRES: Will ONLY be accepted at the DPW Recycling Center on Saturday, March 12th, June 11th, September 10th and December 10th, 8:00am-12:00pm. Tires will be collected curbside BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on Friday, March 18th, June 17th, September 16th and December 16th. To make an appointment please contact the DPW at 973-365-4068. Electronics: Includes but is not limited to TV's, computers and printers can be dropped off at the DPW Recycling Center Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:00am-11:00am and Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm. Complete list of acceptable electronic items

 

 

 

Christmas Trees: Will ONLY be collected curbside on Wednesday, January 5th and January 12th. NO trees will be collected curbside after January 12th. Christmas trees can be dropped off at the DPW Recycling Center Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:00am-11:00am and Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm. 

 

 

 

 Household Hazardous Waste: Including but not limited to paint, motor oil, insecticides and propane are ONLY accepted at Bergen County Utilities Authority sponsored events. For a full list of acceptable materials, dates and locations visit BCUA.org or call 201-641-2552.
